Pain Resource
At Aspirus, our dedication to improving patient care and enhancing staff communication is personified through the Pain Resource Nurse (PRN) Program. This new and exciting program is an example of implementing evidenced-based practice and standards of pain management in the clinical setting. Selected staff nurses receive additional training in pain management and then function as both resources and change agents in disseminating information and interfacing with nurses, physicians, other health care providers, and patients/families to facilitate quality pain management for their units. The goal of the PRN program is to improve patient outcomes in pain control and support physician-nurse communication at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Pain control is one of the many quality indicators used to gauge the effectiveness of nursing care. In the last year, there have been several measures adopted to ensure excellent pain control for patients in the inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
Patient satisfaction regarding pain control is surveyed regularly using a six-point scale. These illustrations demonstrate consistently high scores, a reflection of nurses' commitment to outstanding pain control.
