Mentors
The Mentorship program offers a nurturing and supportive relationship to guide new nurses in their professional development. In this program, a new graduate nurse is paired with an experienced nurse from a different department. The role of the mentor is to guide and counsel the new nurse as she/he transitions into the role of a professional nurse. The mentorship program is distinct from the preceptor program. While the preceptor program serves to provide knowledge and skills, the mentor program is designed to provide role adjustment and social support.

Who are the Mentors and how do I get one?
Mentors have at least two to three years of experience as an RN and have worked at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for a minimum of one year. All mentors have a clear desire to support new nurses who are beginning their professional career.
New graduate nurses hired into all departments are eligible for this voluntary program. If you are interested in this opportunity, please inform the nurse recruiter.
Program evaluation
The mentor and mentee complete evaluations at three and six months. These evaluations measure the new nurse’s confidence, job satisfaction and intent to stay as well as if this program has met its objectives. Graduate nurse retention and turnover rates are measured to determine the program’s success.
