ADAPT - Pre Diabetes Lifestyle Change

Aspirus Diabetes Assessment, Prevention and Treatment Program

A lifestyle change program designed for people with pre-diabetes

ADAPT teaches you about healthier eating and exercise habits to improve your health and reduce your chance of having Type 2 Diabetes.

If you have pre-diabetes you can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes by making simple lifestyle changes. Diet and moderate exercise resulting in a 5-7% weight loss are often effective enough to bring blood sugar levels back down to a healthy range. The goal of the program is to develop long-term improvements in your nutrition and physical activity habits to prevent Type 2 Diabetes.

Program Classes and Exercise

The educational and fun ADAPT program groups meet once a week with a trained instructor for 16 core sessions. After the core sessions you will engage in 8 post-core sessions of ongoing educational meetings over the next eight months. Groups learn about a variety of topics to help you ADAPT to your new healthier life. Class topics include:

  • Self-monitoring: weight, fat and calorie intake
  • Eating less fat and fewer calories
  • Overcoming barriers to physical activity
  • Cues to eating and physical activity
  • Reversing negative thoughts
  • Dealing with slips in lifestyle change
  • Managing stress
