For those grieving the death of a loved one, whether it occurred recently or in years past, immediate and follow-up care is provided and available. This includes resources provided and staff follow-up with next of kin a year after a death in the hospital and an annual holiday memorial service.
Several times a year, Aspirus Riverview also offers grief support group programs that are open to the community, which include facilitated, small group sessions for adults experiencing grief following the death of a loved one. Opportunity for loss-specific groups are also available (for example, a group for parents who have lost adult children, etc.). For information about these free programs, please call 715.422.7744.
To learn more about Aspirus Riverview’s Home Delivered Meals, including pricing and registration information, please call our Food & Nutrition Services Department at 715.421.7447.
Registered dietitians are also available by appointment to discuss the individual nutrition needs of patients who are no longer in the hospital. To learn more about our outpatient nutrition services and educational programs, call 715.421.7566.
Aspirus Riverview wants everyone who uses medications and household sharps (syringes, needles and lancets) to dispose of them safely, legally and at no cost.
It is important to dispose of unused medications properly to avoid harm to others.
Medications are collected during business hours at the Marshfield, Nekoosa, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rome, Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids police departments and at the Wood County Sheriff's Department. For more information about medication disposal, please call the Wood County Health Department at 715-421-8911.
Sharps are often mixed in with household garbage or flushed down the toilet. These disposal methods pose serious risks to family members and sanitation workers in the form of accidental sticks.
Aspirus Riverview's Sharps Smart community syringe disposal service provides three convenient locations to dispose of household sharps at no cost. (Sharps used by farms and businesses are not accepted.)
To use one of Aspirus Riverview's Sharps Smart community syringe-disposal centers:
Sharps Smart is funded by Aspirus Riverview Foundation and the voluntary donations of those who use or support the program.
At Aspirus Riverview Hospital, we respect the unique spiritual and religious beliefs of each patient and their loved ones. Spiritual support services are offered to people of all traditions, cultures and beliefs, regardless of affiliation with a particular denominational group or of having no affiliation.
Our staff chaplain is an ordained pastor who works as part of the interdisciplinary patient care team and observes standards of practice developed by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Service is available to all patients in the hospital, as well as those in the Emergency Department, Family Birthplace, Aspirus UW Cancer Center, and various hospital-sponsored support groups.
As a patient or support person, you may be visited by our staff chaplain to assess any spiritual or emotional needs with you, acquaint you with available spiritual care services, and provide assistance throughout your time at Riverview. You may also request to have our chaplain visit as needs arise.
Riverview welcomes and encourages visits from patients’ home spiritual leaders or clergy. With your preference and consent upon registration, or by request at any other time, they will be notified of your hospitalization. Provision or facilitation of sacramental needs, such as communion, baptism and anointing of the sick are also available.
