My Aspirus Story
Michelle Reed, of Medford, has always been an avid walker, but hadn’t set foot in a gym since junior high phy ed. Once the cold weather of winter set in, she decided to pursue a more structured fitness plan, but didn’t know exactly how to start. In October, 2014, Michelle joined Aspirus Therapy & Fitness’ Step-Up program.
The 12 week Step-Up program assists new members in developing a good fitness routine, get acquainted with the equipment and develop confidence in the gym. Candy Lindow, fitness instructor, checks member's progress at 6 and 12 weeks. “I love to see new people exercising,” says Candy.
“Having Candy there to show you the equipment was so helpful,” says Michelle. “It can be intimidating when you don’t know what equipment to use. I told Candy what I wanted to work on and she gave me a routine that fit.”
In such a short time on the program, Michelle says the difference is amazing. “Three weeks ago I couldn’t do two minutes on the elliptical, now I can do an hour. I do free weights, ab exercises and cardio.” Michelle says the biggest thing to sticking with it is the encouragement from the staff. “I don’t know if I would have stuck with it without Candy’s guidance that first time.”
“Michelle has made significant progress – she looks very comfortable while working out,” says Candy. “She seems ‘hooked’ on exercise now! How exciting!”
Just like so many, Michelle works full-time, has a family, a cell phone that never stops ringing, and other demands that fill her day. “I just love my time in the gym – it’s my time, only me,” says Michelle.
When Michelle joined the fitness center, her goal was to make it three days per week, now she doesn’t miss a day. “I thought I was going to have to drag myself to the gym, but now I can’t get enough. I’m so happy I made the investment in myself – you just can’t put a price on your health!”
