Aspirus Wausau Hospital is designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma.
The Aspirus Trauma Center is in a constant state of readiness 24-hours a day. Before a patient arrives, our trauma team is fully prepared and assembled in the trauma room, ready to treat traumatic injuries that often require immediate and complex intervention to save patients lives.
The Level II trauma team at Aspirus Wausau Hospital provides a full spectrum of care that addresses the needs of all injured patients. This includes the entire continuum of care from the time of injury through rehabilitation.
A trauma center is not only an emergency department, but a dedicated facility capable of highly specialized and timely treatment for the most critical of injuries. Designation as a Level II Trauma Center guarantees that the hospital has adequate resources to deal with severely injured patients at all times.

When a patient is determined to be a trauma patient, the EMS will transport that person to the nearest trauma center, bypassing closer hospitals that are not trauma centers or are at a lower level. There are several factors involved in the decison of where to take a patient, including the severity of the injury and the need for immediate treatment.

The Aspirus Trauma Center treats injured patients with the best possible care available. Patients come from 18 counties in Central & Northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan. Falls, motor vehicle, snow sports, motorcycle, and recreational accidents account for most of the injuries that we treat in the Trauma Center.

Because many injuries are preventable, the Aspirus Trauma Center participates in many injury prevention programs.
Emergency Services is a specialized department that provides a high level of care to both adults and children for everything from life-threatening medical and trauma conditions to minor injuries. The Aspirus Emergency Department is staffed by physicians that are Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and residency trained by The American Board of Emergency Medicine.
