Aspirus Wausau Hospital is a Magnet facility licensed for 325 beds that is staffed by 350 physicians in 35 specialties. It is the flagship of the Aspirus system that serves patients in 14 counties across northern and central Wisconsin, as well as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Aspirus Wausau Hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary care services as a regional referral center. Specialty referral service emphasis exists in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics and cancer. The hospital has an average daily inpatient census of 160 with approximately 15,000 admissions per year. Outpatient visits exceed 50,000 and there are also more than 24,000 annual emergency department visits.

Patients at Aspirus Wausau Hospital can stay connected with family and loved ones easier than ever thanks to
Aspirus Connected is a service funded by the Aspirus Volunteers that allows patients to checkout a laptop or
digital tape recorder to help stay connected when they are hospitalized. The laptops are equipped with Skype technology, allowing
patients to utilize the hospital’s guest wireless to video chat with friends and family right in their rooms.
The digital recorders can be used by patients to record stories or thoughts just to pass the time, or to keep for future
use to remember their experience.
The laptops and voice recorders can be checked out at the reception desk at the main (west)entrance of the hospital for two
hours at a time and are available seven days a week. Check availability by calling extension 72937.
Coffee and espresso drinks, and treats are available in the main lobby of Aspirus Wausau Hospital on
Hot meals, salad bar, beverages and snacks are available at our hospital cafeteria located in the lower
level of the hospital. It is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Express Cafe, located
on the first floor of the hospital near the lobby, is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Here you will find soups,
pizzas and deli sandwiches, made to order.
Vending machines are also located at the cafeteria and in the main lobby.
To ensure we are meeting all your needs, we have designated a patient representatives at all Aspirus
entities. Additional resources may include a financial counselor, privacy officer, and/or a medical ethics committee.

Aspirus Volunteers and Certified Nursing Assistants are available to escort patients to testing areas or
hospital rooms. If you would like an escort, please check with the front desk in the main lobby.

If you are in need of a gift for your special one, the Aspirus Volunteers’ Gift Shop offers a
wonderful and unique selection of gifts, flowers, chocolates and cards. The Gift Shop is located in the west side main
lobby. It is open Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm.
Aspirus Wausau Hospital offers free interpreter services to assist patients and families more comfortable

Medication Mondays is a free community service designed to help adults self-administer medications and help
prevent medication errors in the home. Aspirus Wausau Hospital offers Medication Mondays on the third Monday of each month. This
free program allows people to meet with Aspirus Pharmacy staff for one-on-one medication consultations to get a better

provides a pleasant, calming spot for patients and visitors to relax.
Aspirus Wausau Hospital’s pastoral services are available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to

This office assists patients in understanding hospital and physicians’ bills, Medicare benefits,
filing health insurance claims, and Medicare appeals. Price quotes for elective hospital procedures are available upon request. The

For the convenience of our patients, a pharmacy is located in the Aspirus Wausau Hospital lobby. Please call 715.847.2547 to contact the pharmacy. Prescriptions from your physician can be filled at the pharmacy Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7 pm, and on Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. The pharmacy is closed on Sundays and Holidays.

Your safety is of utmost important to us. Uniformed security guards are on duty 7 days a week, 24-hours a
day, supplemented by closed-circuit television monitoring in main throughways and parking lots.
Social workers are available for patients and their families to provide assistance with practical and
emotional matters. Discharge planners work with patients, their families and physicians to coordinate post-hospital continuity of

How does my test or procedure get scheduled?
Your physician’s office will call to schedule any test or procedure your physician may order for you.
Can patients schedule their own tests?
Routine mammograms are the only diagnostic test that can be scheduled direct by patient once a year without a physician’s order.
How do I obtain my surgery time?

The Aspirus Wausau Hospital Patient Registration department is responsible for the pre-registration of tests and procedures, patient insurance verification and central scheduling of certain tests and procedures.
Pre-registration is completed prior to the date of your services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in order to expedite your check in the day of your test or procedure. Pre-registration is completed via phone or in person and involves gathering complete and accurate patient and financial (insurance) information.

Insurance verification is a process used by Patient Registration to identify and process payment with a patient’s insurance company for elective and urgent, scheduled and non-scheduled procedures. Our verification staff will attempt to contact patient’s insurance company to verify insurance coverage and policy requirements and, if required, will pre-certify for authorization of procedure or stay.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital achieved Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the third consecutive time in 2014.
The four-year Magnet designation is the nation’s highest recognition of nursing excellence. When Aspirus Wausau Hospital was first designated a Magnet facility in 2005 it was the 141st hospital to achieve the milestone.
